Wellborn 2R Cowboys and Cowgirls Shine at Clay County Pioneer Reunion

This past weekend, our Wellborn 2R crew proudly took part in one of the most anticipated events of the year: the 93rd Annual Clay County Pioneer Reunion and Rodeo. With over 5,000 people in attendance, this event brings together the heart of our local ranching community and celebrates the rich traditions of rodeo and western heritage. Our ranch cowboys and cowgirls weren’t just spectators—they were out there in the community and arena, putting their skills to the test and representing the spirit and cowboy traditions of Wellborn 2R ranch.

Ranch manager and head butcher, Shane Crafton, played a pivotal role in this annual tradition. As a rotating member of the 9-man Board responsible for organizing the rodeo, Shane worked year-round to prepare and plan for the event. His dedication and hard work behind the scenes help bring this extraordinary experience to life for everyone involved. From the rodeo arena to stock contractors and contestants, Shane worked tirelessly, long days and nights, to ensure the rodeo was a success. With a record attendance on Saturday night, we would have to say it was!

Our resident head butcher, Shane Crafton, played a key role in the success of our annual CCPR Rodeo as a member of the 9-Man Board that puts on the rodeo. He's also the same guy that cuts your steaks and ensures the high quality of beef you know us to deliver.

On Friday, our ranch foreman Caleb Johnson's identical twin girls, Brynn and Laney, participated in the Cowboy Poetry Contest, held for the first time this year during Pioneer Reunion. The girls gave stellar performances, and each walked away as Division winners with $50 in their pockets. Then later that night, Laney participated in the calf scramble during the rodeo and her quick-thinking cowgirl moves with their calf helped her Henrietta High School FFA team cross the line in first place.

Out in the arena, Chris and Levi Littlefield, our father-son cowboy team, competed in the team roping event in the rodeo on Friday night. Levi, who’s been riding and helping gather cattle on the ranch since he was just five years old, showed off his years of experience working alongside his dad. It’s moments like these that highlight the generational traditions we cherish at Wellborn 2R.

Chris Littlefield has been helping with our cattle work at the ranch for over 15 years now.

The rodeo wasn’t just about the men, though. Our 13-year-old ranch cowgirl, Laycee Littlefield, stole the show during Friday night’s barrel racing, where she gave a stellar performance. The excitement didn’t stop there—on Saturday, Laycee took home the win in the Flag Race at the Playday, adding another ribbon to her collection. Like her brother, Laycee has been riding at the ranch since she was little, and it’s no surprise she’s making a name for herself in the rodeo world.

At Wellborn 2R ranch, we’re incredibly proud of our team’s involvement in the Pioneer Reunion. Their hard work, dedication, and love for the land and livestock are at the core of everything we do. Whether it's roping cattle on the ranch or riding in front of a cheering crowd, our cowboys and cowgirls are a testament to the enduring legacy of ranching—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

One of our other ranch team members, Dee Ann Littlefield,
has been designing the CCPR posters for over 10 years and
this year was no exception. CCPR is just a family tradition for
all of us here at the ranch. We love it!
